Letterboxing, Pillarboxing, and Lower Thirds
Watching ads during CNN’s SD election coverage on a widescreen TV reveals some totally insane letterboxing and pillarboxing, especially due to the persistent lower third:

Wireless Corktown expands east
I’m really happy to report that SSID Corktown_Free extends a little farther east on Queen Street, thanks to Val, a neighbour I met this past weekend, and Savoury Grounds, the new coffee shop.
You can see an updated coverage map here, and more details on the project here.

Where to download The Nerve and Age of Persuasion
Shhhh…
cbcpodcasts.wordpress.com says it’s “for the CBC shows that fall through the podcast cracks.”
It liberates Jowi Taylor’s excellent series The Nerve from Windows Media hell.
It lets you easily download Terry O’Reilly’s fantastic Age of Persuasion (which is not impossible via cbc.ca if you know how to click “View Source,” but it’s needlessly difficult).
Plus, they have a couple of other CBC radio shows that didn’t get podcasts.
Grab ’em now before they’re gone.

Zap portrait
Photographer extraordinaire Rannie Turingan took some great portraits at Zap Your PRAM. Here’s mine:

New Cafe = Savoury Grounds
This morning before work, I stopped into the new coffee shop at 354 Queen Street East. Here’s what I learned:
- It’s another Savoury Grounds location, though they don’t have a sign yet
- They have free WiFi
- They’re open weekdays 7-6, and weekends 8-5
- The owner’s name is Steven (or maybe Stephen)
The staff were really nice and the coffee was good. It’s a promising looking spot, and a nice addition to our corner.
