R.I.P. iSquint
iSquint, the fantastic free video compression tool for the Mac has been discontinued along with its big brother VisualHub and second cousin AudialHub.
I know Tristan used iSquint to prep every single episode of Jim Dupree for the web.
It’ll be missed.

If All Movies Had Cell Phones
Earlier this month, I heard a great piece on NPR’s podcast of On The Media. It was an interview with Zachary Pincus-Roth, a freelance journalist who wrote a piece in the LA Times all about the effect of cell phones on movie plots:
While cellphones appear to help storytellers, since they allow anyone to talk to anyone at any time, “that seeming freedom only makes it all the more difficult,” says Robert McKee, the screenwriting guru and author of “Story.” “It takes away a possible source of conflict — the difficulty of communicating, the difficulty of calling for help.”
Today, via Gizmodo, a link to this CH video, If All Movies Had Cell Phones:

Favourite moment? The Fight Club scene (second to last).

GRTTWaK update
My little reading series, Grownups Read Things They Wrote as Kids, got a nice mention in the Toronto Star today.
Also, I’ve cut several more episodes of the GRTTWaK podcast, which will roll out over the next few weeks.
