Trapped in the Closet
I had houseguests this weekend. Laura and Michael had a day off from their tour with Buck 65, and stayed over on Saturday night. Michael brought a copy of R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet.
It was probably the single best thing I have seen in a very long time. If you’re like me, and haven’t seen (or heard about) it, TITC is basically an epic 45-minute music video in 12 parts. We watched it all the way through, and immediately afterwards, watched the commentary mix.
I was told to throw away all my preconceived notions of R. Kelly, and boy am I glad I did.
Rent it. Or rather, buy it. It’s that good.
Or if you’re cheap, just watch it on YouTube.

Gig at the Red Guitar Tuesday
Tomorrow, I’ll play a gig with my friend Ainsley McNeaney (and a pile of other bona-fide musician types, including Dean Pomeroy, Tim Francom, Miguel Malaco, Kristine Grey, Cait Boyle and Mohsin Bhujwalla).
You can listen to some of Ainsley’s tunes on her MySpace account.
It happens Tuesday, June 13 at the Red Guitar in Toronto. It’s an early show with 2 sets, starting at 7:00. Details at Upcoming.org.

Yahoo!
I had lunch yesterday with my friend Christina, who shared with me the good news that she has a job… at Yahoo! She just graduated from Sheridan, she’s planning to move into Toronto soon, and it’s really nice to see things working out the way she wants them to. More details on her blog.
Congrats, Christina.

Look Mom, I’m a repeat
According to the Hotsheet, I’m on Go again this weekend. But it’s a rerun:
All the heavy hitters are coming out this week on Go. Â Hawksley Workman rocks the Go atmosphere with brand new tunes. Heather Mallick drops by, along with CBC’s Resident Cheapskate, “Discount” Dan Misener. Â And Grooveshinny rises once more out of the dungeon. Go – You paid for the whole seat, but you’re only going to need the edge!!! Â Saturday at 10 a.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

Loyal she began, loyal she remains
My Ontario driver’s licence arrived in the mail today. It’s been a couple of weeks since I traded in my Nova Scotia licence.
It made me kind of sad.
On the upside though, I have an ID again, and don’t have to carry around my passport anymore.
